I got this Kabar at the flea market today and need a little info. It's marked USN MK2 on the tang and sheath. The markings on the back of the sheath are what I would like to now more about. The sheath also has previous owners (sailors) names scratched into the sheath. One side says Jack and the back David.
The finish is totally gone on the blade but has a full edge. Any info on this Navy Kabar and possible age would be great. Thanks Matt

Hi:
Need to see side profile close up of handle. Please make the picture so color of spacers is discern-able. They may all be black or there could be a R B R spacing, need to know which. Need to be able to see thickness of pommel. Also a pic of end of pommel would help. If you have one lat a ruler along length of knife. Lastly a clear closeup of side profile of blade and stamp. From your shots you might have a pretty good knife. You also might get your moderator to move to military forum. Thank You,

Thanks Mossdancer, I found a few on ebay and they had similar markings on the sheath. Is this a WWII or later Kabar? Is the sheath WWII or later? I saw some of the Kabars had the markings on the guard and some on the tang of the blade. Is that early and later marking styles?I took the best pics I could of the handle, it is black leather. I gave $40 for it.

Probably later, due to the layout of the false edge in relation to the fuller.
Here is a couple of pics and a URL to a web site, He is probably one of the foremost authorities on military knives.
The sheath is legit from what I see. Even with the names it is most likely worth maybe more than half your full purchase price. You did okay.
Peruse this site and it will probably answer any question you have and you will come away a hell of a lot more aware what to look for. They also offer knives for sale.
