Schrade 8OT with Buffalo Horn Handles
This was my first time working with buffalo horn. Its definitely different than working with bone but its turns out nice when finished.
This was an old 8OT that I apparently took apart and left in a zip lock bag downstairs because it had a bit of tang wear on the main blade which led to a weak snap. It was too nice to part out so I replaced the sheepsfoot and spey blades and fitted it with some new smooth buffalo horn handles in jet black. The main blade still has some sping tension left it just doesn't snap like it should.
You can see by the backspring pin where the horn fibers separated a bit when I installed the pin. But other than that it turned out pretty good.
I would definitely work with this material again especially if I'm looking for something that gives a great black color.

Very nice job!
Buffalo horn is one of the most underrated handle materials, IMHO. It's easy to work with and it turns out very nice in most cases.

Beautiful Job Jeff!
Buffalo horn is another material I need to try. You sure got a NICE clean and shiny finish on those covers!
