Kutmaster Electricians Knife Project

I haven’t done an electricians knife in awhile and since I had a Kutmaster in the project box I decided to work on that. The disassembly was pretty straight forward, a few of the pins were seized a bit but a little judicious brute force and it’s all apart!

I cleaned up the liners and I usually like to clean up the interior surface of the spring. It just looks nice when you look in the blade well and everything’s clean.

I decided to make this a single blade easy open jack. If you’ve followed any of my electrician knife mods you know that I don’t usually like the bails or screwdriver blades so I set those off to the side. I like having rear nickel silver bolsters on these knives so I went ahead and scribed the liners, tinned the backside of the bolsters, clamped a spacer block and a bolster to the liner, and soldered the bolsters in place.

While I was waiting for those to cool down, I refinished the blade (satin/brushed finish). Sometimes I refinish the blades sometimes I don’t. It depends on what the blade looks like, the knife that it’s in and whether I’m in the mood for something shiny and clean. Im in the mood for shiny and clean!

A quick trip to the bandsaw and then to the belt grinder and the bolsters are roughed in.

Gotta work on the easy open liner openings and then decide on handle material. I’ll post more later.

I had to replace the front bolsters, the edges were just too uneven to get a good match with the handle material. I took off the stock bolsters and replaced them with 1/8" nickel silver. The handles are chestnut brown smooth bone.
It turned out decent. I still have a little cleanup to do on the bolsters but that's for another day.

That's a great remake and a good looking Easy Open knife

That is a great job on the knife! The bolsters are rounded beautifully. Mine so far have looked too square and blocky. Also, good choice on the bone. You really know how to dress up a knife!

The scales are Culpepper discounted smooth black bone. The end up being black and chestnut brown once you finish them.
I don’t own a pin spinner anymore. I had three different sets of spinners and didn’t care for any of them. Other guys use them and like them, I just never cared for them or mastered their use.
The handle pins are pre-fabricated Schrade pins and the backspring pin is peened.
