Did another company buy the rights to the Queen brand??

The Queen Cutlery Company manufactured knives in Titusville Pennsylvania for 96 years. The company opened its only factory there in 1919 and commenced to make some of the best US crafted cutlery you will find. Unfortunately, the Titusville manufacturing plant closed down in 2018.

Did another company buy the rights to the Queen brand??

Post by OSCAR »

I came across a newly made Queen knife.
Under the specs tab, it shows USA as country of origin. Composition handles, and 440 steel, not looking like the quality of a “real Queen” knife.
Here’s the link to it. Any information would be appreciated, but I think that with Queen closing that it’s most likely someone bought the rights to use the name.

Thanks for the information. I read all the posts. I think if Bear and Son made them, they should be of decent quality and good value. That said, Bear in no way compares to Queen in quality craftsmanship. If it’s true that SMKW bought the name, it’s just a matter of time until they shift production overseas. While 440 is decent, it doesn’t compare to a good quality high carbon steel or the D2 that Queen was using in its last years of manufacturing. It looks like this may be a good EDC, but nothing special. The composition handles are a cheap way to go, and I am not particularly fond of the laser etch they used. If this is a debut, I am willing to bet that the future releases will be similar in nature.

If it just says 440, then it’s probably 440A which is cheap and you’re right it’s not very good compared to many others. However if it’s 440C that’s a different story. 440C is excellent (and more expensive). But there’s a reason they just say “440” without specifying which version. ::hmm::
