Hello everyone on this lovely wet Monday... can you help identify this knife? Only marking on blade is ‘Made in Japan’. Does the symbol on the bolster mean anything?

Unclepaulie, I have one that is very similar in my store, picture included. Mine was made for the A.G. Russell company in Seki Japan. Most likely yours was made at the same place. The symbol looks very familiar and I don’t think it has anything to do with where it was made but rather the company it was made for. The most likely craftsmen for these knives would have been either Moki or Hiro which is owned by I.C., which stands for Ishikawa Cutlery. My money would be on I.C.given that it’s a Damascus blade and they are known for producing knives like this w/ fancy Damascus or laminated blades.
I will have to get back to you on the symbol, I know I have seen it before, but can’t place it right now.

I’m pretty certain the symbol is a lotus flower, which you see a lot in Japanese culture. Seki Cut uses a lotus symbol on their knives, but it’s different from this one. Seki Cut is run by I.C. by the way. Lotus flowers in Japan mean enlightenment and several other things all very good. Has to do w/ perseverance through difficulties and reaching a place of enlightenment on the other side.
I couldn’t find a company with that symbol but pretty sure it’s just an adornment of a lotus flower.

Thank you for your wisdom. I was not sure on the Lotus if it was just a flower representing who the knife was made for, or the actual maker of the knife.
