Case '35 pattern

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case '35 pattern

Post by msteele6 »

Here are a few Case '35 pattern knives. I've shown them from approximately oldest to newest from top to bottom. I've included an '035 pattern. There are quite a few variations in handle materials and blade styles. The Case XX/U.S.A. has the nail pulls on the same side, sort of uncommon on Case knives. It also has an XX era shield, might be red bone, if it was a year earlier. The top knife is a 1235 1/2, I believe. It's a Case Bros/Little Valley, even though it's not visible in the picture its etched "Davey Bros/Warranted", one of the very few older Case knives I've seen with an etch (other than the occasional "For Flesh Only"). Davey Bros. was a hardware store in Anacortes, Wash., they went out of business in 1921.

Have no idea how many different versions of the '35 were made.

Very nice. I love the 35 pattern. Great photos. I have a hard time getting a clear photo. By far, I'm no photographer. Here are the few I
have.

Two Words.......Freakin' Awesome. I've only seen one of those several years ago on display at a gun & knife show. The guy was just showing it off. Had no interest in getting rid of it. I couldn't blame him.

Great stuff knifeaholic! :D
Your putting up pictures of some very attractive 35's I might have never known existed if you hadn't shared them. ::tu::
Thanks! ::handshake::

It's amazing how much there is to learn in this hobby! It's almost overwhelming sometimes! ::hmm:: No, I take that back.
It is overwhelming, at least to me ::facepalm:: , most of the time. ::doh::
Some days ya think, "Hey, I'm really getting to know this stuff about tradition pocketknives!" And your feelin kinda proud of yourself. ::tu::
And the next day your reading around the forums and ya think, ::hmm:: "Man! I'll never figure all this out!" ::doh::
And I haven't even started looking at modern folders, razors, fixed blades or anything else sharp. ::facepalm::

I know how you feel. :lol: But you know what they say, as long as you are learning something new each day, you are still growing. So not only with this hobby but with many things in life, I still learn something new. So at 65, I may still be learning & growing older, but I refuse to grow up. :lol: But I will never be an expert nor do I wish to be. I would rather always learn something new I didn't know.

I once worked with an older gentleman, as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Diesel Mechanic. He had been there about 30 years and was not far from retirement. I once mentioned to him, that as long as he had been working there...he must be an expert in that field. He looked at me and said..."You never want to be an expert! If you break the word down The pronunciation, two syllables, EX-Spurt. "EX"= meaning, past, former, a has been. "Spurt" = small amount, little bit. Which means, when your an Expert....your a little bit of a has been. :lol:
