Frost balisong

Hey guys..
I'm having trouble finding much info on this knife, I usually collect slip joints and this is out of my wheel house..i found similar ones and it seems some even frost demand a premium..i'm not interested in selling it but would like too know if this is one of the more valuable ones..and what makes it so if it is..thanks for any info..

Its blade etched Singapore Butterfly 1 and tang stamped Frost cutlery surgical steel. And simply JAPAN on back

Circa 1980s There were lots of karate movies and butterfly knives were a big hit. Frost imported some of these and they were pretty reasonably priced and a fair quality knife. They wholesaled between $5 to $7.50 and they retailed for $15 to $20 When I was managing a cutlery store in the 1980s.
I have no idea What the market is today, but I would imagine probably $30 to perhaps $40 On a good day if a knife is in really good condition. But that's just a guesstimation I haven't followed the market on those.

I had one just like that a couple of years ago, except mine had solid handles, which is actually a drawback since it made it heavier to use and lots of weight is something you just don’t want on a knife like that. Dale is spot on his estimate. I didn’t try to sneak it by on Ebay since it is against their policy to sell these on there. I let some folks know that I had it available and the best I could get was 40 dollars. Hope this helps.

Thank you I do believe both you and Dale are spot on to the value of mine..I'm still wondering what makes particular frost Japanese ones from the 80s pricey ..there seem too have been enough sold and being sold that it isn't just one sellers delusional value..maybe a collector of the type will happen by, that can give more insight..I have seen some in my search that are attributed to seki japan ..but not all knives made there were great..I have also noticed that most later ones have a single edged drop point style blade while some earlier ones had either double edged spear type or false edged such as my example.
Don't know if this has any bearing..at all or was a result of some legislation for import..I have read many people had self inflicted injuries, that and the martial arts movies of the times where they were vilified inspired misguided legislation in some states... Thank you for your kind reply..WB

I've got one that I found on the side of the road probably in the late 80's, I carried it and played with it till I wore out the locking mechanism and put it in my tool box where it resides to this day. I'm several hundred miles from it at this time but mine is not a dagger blade if memory serves,and I don't remember it having Singapore on it just butterfly, but it has as good of stainless steel as any knife I own, it's sharp as a tack and holds a edge just fine.

I will give anybody $100 for one of these in good condition. I love This knife and had one for years. I lost it at work one day. I think it fell out of my pocket in the bathroom. I've been looking for one ever since. I look it up every 6 months on eBay and various internet sites. Don't know how I missed this one since it originated in 2020. But if anybody is interested, I'm very serious. Not sure how things like that work out but hopefully we could work something out. I know they're not worth it. They are worth it to me.
