E-Bay knives

I've been looking through E-Bay at all the different knives. I think it's kind of funny how the sellers list a knife as "RARE" or "SCARCE", and there will be 10 or 15 of the exact same knife on the same page as theirs. You would think that would give them a clue but, it doesn't.

Right! Theres a guy listing the 2006 BUCK/Walmart Tin 112 with a starting bid of $125. These sold for $25 new and are readily available on ebay for under $40!! He lists his as "RARE", "only one on ebay", and tries to make it sound like the blade was actually signed by Hoyt Buck himself, instead of etched on!! Well, its fun to read, but i feel bad for anyone that gets taken

Unfortunately this is usually the rule rather than the exception.The only insurance against this is to become more knowledgeable about whatever it is you are seeking before purchasing.

There is a wealth of information concerning knives;most of it pretty accurate.For those who are really serious about collecting,it is an endless quest for knowledge. I think a lot of the people who have become victims of e-Bay scammers are ones who are in the game to try and turn a quick profit.

Believe me there are a lot better investments than knives.If you collect with an eye towards making a profit(as the sole reason for collecting)I would advise that it is about the same as playing the stock market with no idea of what it is all about.

If in fact the knives you buy for reasonable money turn out to greatly appreciate in value that is just an added benefit.I personally collect knives because I appreciate them for what they are:unique and unusual and hopefully practical tools.There is a lot more to it than that but that is the essence of collecting for me.
