Peanut for EDC

Hey yall. I mostly carry a 3 1/2" stockman as an EDC, but was wondering if the Peanut would be big enough. I would appreciate it if yall would provide opinions/reviews of the Peanut pattern in general. Thanks.

Hey Georgian,

to the site and let me say that I prefer something a little bigger myself. For instance, the Sowbelly or Barlow does it for me because I tend to like a little more blade than the Peanut offers. Its fine for dress occasions because its smaller and doesn't take up too much room in the pocket but if you're gonna cut anything bigger than a piece of string on a garment the Peanut ain't much help. IMO.

I will agree with singin46 on this.

The peanut to me is to small but I have some in my collection.

The Barlow type with 2 blades will work hard for you and last a long time.

Just keep the blades share and do not pry with them...

For an EDU I do not need 3 or 4 blades. In fact one sharp bladed knife works for me. Check out these two the Sog SOG Twitch II and a smaller one is the SOG Blink. This is a small but VERY strong working knife.
It will not fell like a wade of ??? in your pocket and still cut a lot of copper wire....

Thanks yall. I didnt think it would be big enough for what I do, but I was just getting some opinions. I'm probably goin' to go with a new Case Yellow Handle CV Stockman. The one I carry right now is a really old Eye Brand that my grandad used to carry, and I resharpened the blades back up, and its the best carry knife that I own....needless to say....my grandad cut many a hog with it in his day.....

That old Eye Brand that my grandad used is going to be better than the NEW case. IMO you mite look for a case YELLOW stockman that was made befor 2000. You will be pleased if you did...

That is if your looking for more quality.

My father, a blue collared guy, carried 'peanut' sized knives most of his life except when hunting-so they must work for some.
For me they are too small because I lose or misplace them.

Anybody named "Savage" should carry something bigger than a Peanut...

The only tactical type knives I own are the Gerber Ez-Out and Gator. They are good knives, but I always go back to traditional slipjoint stockmans and such.

I EDCed a Peanut for a long time, and in my job, you need some serious cutting ability. We had to skin an Alligator at one point, and while the other guys were using utility box cutters and tactical knives, I used my Peanut, and I'll be damned if those little, thin, super sharp blades didn;t out cut everything except for the razor blades. And even THEY had to be replaced before my Peanut gave out. When it comes to cutting, the blade doesn;t have to be big. After all, a surgeon's blade is about an inch big. Handle wise, it's a different story. However, a small blade can cut as well as a big blade.

Cuchillo I'm glad you turned up because if I said I knew this guy who skinned a gator and some rattlesnakes with one, nobody would believe me!

My peanut is my work EDC Georgian. My Case Red Bone CV gets crazy sharp and, short of felling a tree, cuts through anything I encounter (granted, I work in an urban office setting). Its light weight, and it just feels good.

Away from work...usually my SAK Super Tinker (which, I think, Cuchillo is also a fan of, coincidentally) or my SOG Blink (which, it appears justold is also a fan of).

Anyway, as far as the peanut goes, don't sell the little fella short! And heck, at about 20 bucks for a Case Yellow Delrin CV, how can you go wrong?

Kool so wa have 2 members now that use a SOG...

I thought I was the only odd ball here.

I find that I do not have to sharpen her very of-fen.

With the wide blade she has I can also pry boxes open that come in the mail (with a new knife in it

) and use the box again.

Here is a 2 7/8" "Reverse Peanut Trapper" (because of the frame shape) from Wendell Carson. It is a handy little knife for carrying around the house in shorts and such. It is a mite too small for me to EDC. But that is only my opinion.

I do enjoy the Blink justold! With that assisted open, it really is fun to play with.

And its a stout little guy...all metal, thick blade. It would probably take a beating.

And...I know its heresy...but I like to go non-slipjoint once in a while.

Don't tell anybody...even got a "sharpened prybar" coming soon!

I lkie a trapper but sometimes they're a bit to big for the pocket, so I carry a sodbuster,Jr. at work . Best working knife I've found.

My EDC well it's a toss up between my Kershaw Leek or RAZ CV it's just the Leek tends to get some strong looks at work being to pointed and assited

. The RAZ has a little more Class and thick strong blades able to cut threw anything with out losing a tip.

My EDC has been a single blade Case XX U.S.A. 051 pattern made in 1977 with walnut scales in my front pocket and a old U.S.A. Schrade 125OT Old Timer made in 75 or 76 (I can't remember the year I bought it) with my favorite, carbon steel. I think I'm going to switch out the Old Timer for a coke bottle pattern Case or Queen, it should feel right at home in the nice leather sheath CCBill sent me.

I really like what's in jonet143's pocket.....no that doesn't work

I always thought jonet143 had a fine set of peanuts.....no that doesn't work

I have often strongly considered buying a S&M stag reverse peanut, which, when I recieved it, would then be similar to, but not the same one as, the one jonet143 carries on occasion....sheesh.
