Knife repair parts source

A kind Gentleman on the Case Forum suggested that I post this over here.
Is there a recommended source for parts to repair this old Case? It seems that the Craftsmen and Women that repair knives are backed up with lots of work, and long lead times.

[/image]I have a Case "Moose" (6275SP no dots) that I bought new about 1960 or so, (when I was a kid). Carried it all the time, used it, abused it and in the process of time, I busted one of the scales off. It's the side without the Case inlay.

Can this be repaired? Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like something that probably could be done. If you could try again to post pictures of front and back...someone can probably give you some more info. On the following link...there are a couple of threads, on posting pictures, depending on your device...

New handles can be put on the knife but they may not match perfectly. From what I know Case doesn't keep a bunch of parts sitting around for years so you would have to replace the handles with something the isn't original, perhaps like jigged bone or stag.

In my experience, finding someone competent who doesn’t have a backlog of work and long lead times is an oxymoron. If you want it done right, patience will usually serve you well, regardless where you seek to have the work done. There are several competent experienced knife mechanics among the members at AAPK. They too have backlogs. There’s a reason.

Did you ask Case if they will repair your knife? They might do it for free. I sent Case a 1987 swing guard stag handle Coke Bottle 51050L for repair. They would have repaired it for free if they'd had the needed spring. With an apology for not having spare parts for a knife they had not sold for 30 years Case offered me a new buffalo handled Cheetah as a free replacement. I asked if they'd do the repair later if I could find the spring on my own and they said yes and mailed my knife back. Unfortunately I have not found a user grade knife to cannibalize, only as new $80 bone handled versions. My knife is an unusual and fancy collector knife that I suspect Case had Queen manufacture and that is the reason they do not have parts for it. In contrast, Case has cataloged your 75 handle pattern continuously since long before your Moose was made so the odds that they have all the parts are good. If they do not think it is worth repairing for some other reason like bent metal parts then my experience suggests a smart man accepts their free replacement.

In my experience Case Repair can put new handle covers on most patterns whether still in production or not. It’s the metal parts on old out-of-production patterns that they likely don’t have parts for. The newer handle materials (jigging, colors, etc) however may not match what was on the knife originally, but unless you have a “donor” knife no one else is likely to match the original either.

I’d expect to pay for replacing a broken handle cover but you never know until you ask. If I was the OP I’d jump at that offer from Bill.
