Pearl Cammillus whittler currently on the bay

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Always thought it was strange that on this model, one side of the main blade has a saber grind, while the other side is flat ground. Seems odd.

This one was made between 1915-18. It has the full saber grind on both sides.

It looks to be a stunning knife Greg, I have it in my watch list but I got a feeling it is going to go for a lot more than I'm able to spend.

From a 1928 catalog cut ten to thirteen years after the OP knife. No longer available in pearl but essentially the same knife and blade configuration.

I have the knife on my watch list just to see what price it brings.
Here a Camillus wharncliffe whittler from around the same time.( this one has a couple of problems but I love it ).
The main blade has straight tang stamp ( hard to read ) .
The two small blades have curved tang stamps.

Not saying the knife is right or wrong. ( Just put this one to compare )

An Ebony Gunstock recently sold in the $350 range so I would expect your guess to be about right. ::nod::

I do believe this one will end up with a high roller price once the dust clears. It's a fine example. ::nod::

Judging by the bidding war going on it looks like some greenhorns are driving the price up so they can stay on top, only to be sniped in the end by somebody who knows the proper way to bid. ::hmm::

Yea, I'm thinking well north of 500.00 but I've been wrong before, there was a Miller Bros horseman's knife a couple weeks ago that I was hoping to get for 400.00 or so that hammered for 1042.00, it was a very nice example.

Carrmillus, I'm like that too. I have only one pearl handled knife, which I really like, but I prefer the bone. But that's why they make so many different kinds I guess. We all have different taste. Good luck to the OP. ::nod::

Pearl is nice and is neat when it's on a larger pattern like a whittler, stockman, jack and etc but I agree with you Tommy, I like jigged bone the best. Peachseed is my favorite but that rogers bone ain't bad.

I see $676 for this knife as very high. It might be unused but is far from mint because of oxidation on all 3 blades. Maybe if i was a dedicated Camillus or whittler collector i might value it higher.
I have a 4 3/4" Camillus of the same age, ebony, bail, 2 blade 'straight jack' with tin opener secondary that is unused and as close to mint as possible for a 100+ yr old knife. Is this worth a similar amount ? Or is it the pearl or whittler aspect of OP knife what accounts for the high price ?
