Case tested knives with bails

Post by jljr1944 »

I was looking at a picture posted by a member of a Case Tested knife with a bail. He stated he had heard Case didn't make knives with bails so I thought I would post some pics for everyone. If I can get these pic posted they will blow you away.I guarantee most people have never seen anything like it. These knives are legit. They were purchased from an estate in San Francisco. The grandfather of the person who sold them had been a Case dealer. He had Case make knives with bails for him at the request of the fisherman and sailors he sold knives to. I know the man who bought them, but I have not seen the actual collection. Very few people have even seen the pictures.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like there is one similar to the one I own(only in FAR better shape)on the left about halfway down.My favorite has to be that 5465;I could probably buy a VERY good used car for what that is worth alone! Thanks for posting those;those pics will go in my reference file for sure.

Tested or not, apart from their Jr. Scouts, I've seen bails on only a couple of their current production Pen knives.
I prefer with bails. Don't know why they're so rare.
Guess you can always have one put on if you wish, by Muskrat Man, if not by Case.
A knife without a bail is like a boat without a mooring. Without the boatman at the helm, it's adrift.

I forget which one, but i remember seeing an old Case catalogue(I think it was one during the tested era) where Case offered to add a bail to their knives for a small fee. In any event, I have seen several tested era Case patterns with bails, including peanuts and 54 trappers.
