The outstanding ones.

After about ten years of surfing AAPK forums, especially General Knife Discussion, I am left with the impression that the Schrade 108OT is the knife that stands out overall for performance.
This is not a personal opinion because after ten years I still don't own a Schrade 108OT.
I also got the impression from the forum that the Camillus brand stood out most for overall quality although Case was the most popular brand.
Just my impressions, mind you.

A 108OT was the first knife I bought when I was released from active duty. I carried it for several years (still have it) and don't recall why I quit carrying it. It did everything I needed a knife to do.

Just me, but I prefer something between 3.5 to 4 inches closed and natural scales, such as bone, wood or stag.
Case brand is my first choice, but I do consider others.

Thanks for the comment Larry. I have the impression probably a majority of Stockman aficionados favor them in medium size. I lean more to the larger ones, 4 inch or better.

Shouldn't those small blades be different? ( or is that why the knife is outstanding )

I'm with you QS. 4 inch stockman are about as small as I usually like. I prefer the CASE 75 frame or the Camillus 89. Truth be told for all out feel in the hand etc.... the Camillus 89 beats the CASE 75..

Wade, you are certainly correct about to feel of the knife being so important.
My favorite Stockman pattern based on the feel in my hand is the Camillus #69. My second favorite pattern is the Schrade 61OT.

Best in-hand feel to me is the older, pre-1980s Case 047 pattern. Big enough and sturdy, but smooth and sleek all around.

If I'm carrying a Schrade it's an 881. For whatever reason the OT look never appealed to me. (Yeah, I know it's heresy.)

Dale, Ken, you’re both on to something. The Camillus 69, CASE 63047 is right up there in the top of the heap for me. I grouped them together because they’re so much alike to me.

Ken I have a 2 dot 63047 that I love, butnit has that square blocky feel of an 80’s knife. I also have a XX era one that I really like. But they don’t even feel it look like the same patterns. Lots of changes. That said the 2 dot is a tank of a knife. Very sturdy.

The 108ot definitely punches above its weight. I have never had a situation in which it was too small to do what was necessary. I actually prefer its predecessor the SW 808. I like the older pin through ones that have thinner blades and a more thin and sleek handle.

If talking about quality I think it's important to distinguish the quality of a knife with the era it was made. As an example it would not be fair to compare a case tested to a 1970's camillus, the case from that era would smoke the camillus. If you compared a case tested to a three or four line camillus then you have a fair comparison. When comparing this way I don't think there's very much difference in the overall quality between the top manufacturers.
