Questions about a couple of knives.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if all Case Classic knives are carbon steel or are some stainless steel as well? If some of the Case Classics are stainless steel will the knife be marked as such? The other question I have is, on the Schatt & Morgan knife boxes I read where it said "FILE & WIRE TESTED", are these knives really "FILE & WIRE TESTED" even today? If so how do they "TEST" them? File and wire test is an old way to test the hardness of a blade. If a file is skated across the blade without the file being able to bite into the metal they knew it was not to soft and acceptable for a knife. The wire test, tested the other side of the hardness, which is that it's not to hard. If a blade is able to cut a wire without chipping it was considered good. It should be able to cut a certain size wire without chipping the metal, an indicator that the blades was to hard. Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Duffy

To my knowledge, all of the Case Classics line was made in carbon steel. The only exception that I know of for sure are the new line of "Case Classics" that was put out early this year or late last year. I believe those were done in stainless.

some case blades are chrome vanadium steel, not sure about the "classics" line, watching and learning...

Thank you to all you guys. I'm sorry, I should have posted these questions in the Q&A forum. Please forgive me, I'm still learning about these here computers.

I'm more use to two empty bean cans with a string attached to both of them..

I just don't think of what forum I'm on when a question pops into my head

and I post it right then or I will forget it. I would like to thank all you folks for looking over new, greenhorn members/collectors like me and the mistakes I make. I also thank you for answering my questions, even the dumb ones, that I ask. All of you guys are the nicest bunch of people I've ever seen on any forum.

Most of the Case Classics (the originals 1990-1996) were made with 1095 carbon blases...the few patterns made in house at Case probably had CV blades.

My understanding is that some of the last releases were stainless - I am not sure but possibly the swing guard patterns (11-1/2L) and some or all of the swell center patterns made for SMKW, and possibly the doctors knives. I COULD BE WRONG ON THIS...so maybe someone will correct me.

i believe all the case classic double pull '96 sunfish are SS.not sure of other patterns. the '94 and '95 single pull sunfish are not SS.
