Case 278 Diamond Jubilee

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case 278 Diamond Jubilee

Post by thestretch71 »

I had a chance to get some case knives @ an auction yesterday.

There were several nice Case knives. However the Diamond Jubilee knife had a lighting SS stamp instead of the 1 dot.

There was also a early 70's stockman that seemed a bit odd as well. It was a 3 blade knife probably a 32 pattern.
I opened the knife to the half stop & tiny little sliver of metal came off the raised backspring and stuck in my hand.
Carefully running my thumb along the raised part, that edge seemed very sharp to me. Also, considering the size the knife it had very little weight/heft.
It just didn't seem like a quality made frame to me although the blades were very nice. It was either a 8 or 9 dot knife.

So the question is did I talk myself out of a couple of good knives ?
An 80's stamp on the Jubilee knife & med-lrg stockman with no heft scared me off just enough that I passed on all the Case knives in that group.
They were probably OK but I am a bit leary of fake knives.

On the plus side :) I did pick up a nice XX-Changer in the box with instructions.
