Not on Tang stamp List
Not on Tang stamp List
Just bought "New-Old Stock" in the box Case Copperhead. I did not question the tang stamp or the date on the box before I got home, but now the date is a debate. As you see it has Case (long tail C), pattern number, and no dots for dating. The box has a date - 1999 and apparently correct numbers for this knife. Could this tang stamp be an omission from the Case list, could it be a "transition ID between model productions", or a unique error stamping.

Isn't that a dot just to the right of the "USA"? I thought the 1997-99 stamp used the 3 dots around the USA? 1997 has 3 dots, 1998 has 2 dots and 1999 has 1 dot, so that would be correct for your knife. Or, maybe I'm just wrong...

Yes, the "floating dots" stamp from 1999.

That confirms what the seller told me, and I see that picture on my copy of tang stamp history. The only difference was that mark does not use the "Longtail C". Thanks for your reply -- ANOTHER LESSON LEARNED!
