Need assistance finding gift for WWII collector

Post by cantudallas »

I know I've waited until the last minute to do my Christmas shopping, but I'd like to buy a nice collector-quality pocket knife for my boyfriend. His current "collection" consists of a couple of odd knives he's acquired as gifts over the years, and I'd like to find him something special, because I know he'd like to begin collecting in earnest.

I know nothing about knives so I'm at your mercy, and desperately need the help of expert collectors to direct me.

My boyfriend collects WWII infantry rifles (only a very specific one and I can't even remember what its called!), so I wonder if I could find something for him from that era...He also served in the US Army- 82nd Airborne, and used to enjoy hunting when he was younger. So with any of those three themes in mind, can anyone help me with ideas, brands, merchants? My price range is right around $100.00, though I would definitely go higher for just the "right" knife.

Your help is truly appreciated!

I've been thinking about this, but I'm not at all knowlegable about military collectibles, so my ideas might not be worth squat. One thing that came to mind was the M3, but it is a fixed blade knife. They were issued to some US Army troops in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and are among the most collected military knives from WWII. They come up on eBay fairly regularly and usually fetch more than $100 (especially if they can be dated to be from the WWII era)... depending on the maker and condition. Some companies make reproductions as well. Just a thought.

On things like this I usually just complicate the situation more than anything. :| ...
