Good everyday switchblade.

Postby LesPaulGuitars » Thu Nov 23, 2017 12:43 am

Hey all, and Happy Thanksgiving. I'm sure that most of us are sharpening our carving knives in preparation of tomorrow feast festival! Lol! Hope everyone has a blessed day, and pauses to give thanks to all of the freedoms that our Great country blesses us with.

Im hoping that with your expertise, that I can make a good choice when I purchase my next switchblade. Here is what I'm looking for. A knife that can be used as everyday knife, with a non serrated blade, out of the side blade, leverlock style release, stag or wood handles, 4" blade and reliable like camillus TL-29 is. My budget is around $150. Hope I gave enough information. Thanks! Rich

Hi LesPaulG,
Does new or used matter? American or foreign?
There are too many options out there.
I'd say that 150.00 is a fair price for a nice used (if you are lucky) Hubertus,

Or in new I like the Mikov autos because they are inexpensive, and pretty sexy.
The 241 Predator is a nice knife... with a saw blade added. around 120.00 new

Then there are the Chinese made autos like Ganzo for 30.ish bucks but no stag that I know of.

Here's an AB stag damascus that's pretty solid and dependable. The blade may be to short at 3.25". You can find them within your budget. Google AB or SKM switchblade knives to find a dealer.

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't mind picking up a 2nd hand knife as long as it's in good shape and all. The ones that you both suggested are very nice looking. I've seen some AKC autos that look very nice too. Something with a basic blade is all I need. I'm an electrician and sometimes having the ability to open a knife with one hand can make a task 10x easier. Unfortunately I live in NY. so my buying will have to be via the net, and I won't have the ability to the feel of one before I purchase.

Sounds like time for a road trip to me.

To me, these knives mentioned are kind of "weekend" knives. The kind I carry to keep in nice shape.
For a good work type knife I have a Boker 74 auto that was about 50 bucks, and I beat the tar out of it. Aluminum handles with these sort of finger grooves across them. The button needs a firm, and lengthy push to open so I don't worry about there being no safety. They come in all sorts of configurations. with different blade shapes, types, finishes...
Overall I'd call the Boker a work knife, and the others dress up knives but that's just me...

Heck within your budget you could score a Mikov, and a Boker. ::ds::

This hits all your marks for $99.95. It still leaves you enough for down payment on a Les Paul Studio HP.

How about a USA made S30V Smith & Wesson M&P auto?

I have one I picked up over a year ago from another knife seller but I haven't EDCed it. Also, I have no connection to this seller.

That S&W is one of the Taylor knives. It is "assembled" in America from China made parts. Not that that is an issue at all it's just not really "Made" here.

The Boker is anyones guess as to where the parts were made.
For the money... they are both fine beaters.

I have a Boker Kalishnikov and a Mikov. Either one would make a great EDC.

You might take a look at some Ganzo knives. A few on gunbroker around $50 but they can be has for less than half that.

How about a simple Kershaw cam-assist? ~$50 or so and legal in all states.

I have 2 and carry every day.
