Question about Case 18 pattern

Post by Landersknives »

I have looked at three of Jim Sergeants books and Parker’s Pocket Knife Traders Guide. In Parker’s guide they list in the tested era 1920-40 in the 18 pattern Rogers Bone. In Sergeant’s book he lists green bone but no Rogers Bone. So I was wondering in the tested era did the 18 pattern come out with Rogers Bone scales?

I am very interested to read forthcoming responses on this topic. I have a few Case Tested XX (1920-1940) knives and don't believe any of them have Rogers bone. I also have a few pre Tested (before 1920) Case knives and some of them do have Rogers bone. I also have a few Case XX (after 1940) knives and a couple of them have Rogers bone.

What does this mean? Maybe nothing but a coincidence. However based on my experience Rogers bone on Case Tested XX knives would appear to be uncommon.

Here is a picture of a Case Tested XX 6318 with green bone.

I have seen Tested 18 patterns in Rogers bone.

Was Rogers bone sold as a separate item from the green bone or was it used as a replacement for green bone for instances (for example) where Case was running behind and they would buy these slabs as a substitute?? The reason I ask is..... I have heard that you could find the red rogers bone mixed in or sold as the regular jigging red bone in the XX era? They do kinda resemble in color??

Ralph, as a lover of the Case 18 pattern I have got to say that is one STUNNING Case Pocketknife! OH
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

OH and Landers, thank you for the kind words about my 6318.

I made a collage of some Case knives that I believe have Rogers bone. These are all pre-Tested (pre-1920). I would be grateful to see pictures of Case Tested knives with Rogers bone if anyone is inclined to share. The Case Rogers jigging seems to look a little different than the Rogers jigging I see on other brands such as Remington, Wards, etc.

The file size of the picture is large so it will take some time to download if you click it to get the enlarged view.
