Golden Rule Knife ?
I bought this in a group purchase, one of those deals you buy all to get the one's you want. I gave it a quick once over since I wasn't real interested in it, when I got home and looked it over something just didn't feel right about it. Information I found on Golden Rule shows they made cellioud picture handles. The blades have been cleaned hard, the long pull has been ground to almost nothing and the pitting on the tang has me thinking this blade was transplanted in this frame. I have seen this shield before, just can't recall the knife maker. Knife is 4 1/4" closed.
I'd like to hear your thought's and opinions on this one. If it is counterfeit I will destroy it.

Use it for Mumblety-peg or to dig up weeds in the sidewalk.
In addition to all you noted, also notice the pin and buffed bolsters.

Thank you Roger, it's the only part I'd keep.

Re: Golden Rule Knife ?
Another company that used this shield on larger framed knives was Cattaraugus, and I believe there were others, if I remember correctly. I have seen bone handled Golden Rule knives, though they have been few and far between. Not sure if it's always the case that GRC used "only" celluloid. I'm not an expert on Golden Rule, however, I think that many of the bone handled GRC knives I've seen have had the same jigging pattern on the bone. For me the jury is out on whether or not Golden Rule might have used bone on occasion. .Surely there are many folks who know more about Golden Rule than I At any rate, I wouldn't reserve the knife only for weeding or other onerous tasks. Sure, it's got problems; I'm just not sure the bone is one of them, though it may be in this instance. It still remains an interesting and attractive knife made of all antique parts taken from the same pattern, if indeed it is made up of more than one company's knives

I gotta agree with ofawoo. If it does turn out to be made from other knives, somebody did a pretty nice job putting it together, not to deceive somebody on e-bay, but to make a usable knife.

Re: Golden Rule Knife ?
Thank's ofawoo and Berry, I haven't ruled out anything yet. I did find Golden Rule made a big cigar and offered a large coke bottle hunter handled in wood, so maybe they did some bone. I would like to see their tang stamp, can't find a picture yet. I plan on passing it around to my knife buddy's and hope someone familiar with these can help.

Re: Golden Rule Knife ?
I think this knife is likely authentic and was buffed/cleaned, perhaps long ago.
