real russell barlow?

Post by Beaubob »

[image][/image]Found this in a house I'm remodeling that was built in 1904. Very tight action- the only defect seems to be the wear on the tip of the blade. Also, in all the pictures of Russell barlows I've found I have never seen one with only a single sheepsfoot blade. This house has been remodeled many times so i suppose the knife could have been lost at any time. Thoughts?

Welcome to AAPK Beaubob. I can't help with your question on the pictured pocketknife but someone should be along that can. May want to post a sharp picture of tang markings and maybe a shot the knife closed with the blade lying in the well.

Looks like you made a nice find. The knife looks straight.

That's rare one! and in great condition. Straight line Russells Barlows are the oldest Russell Barlow, and with a sheep's foot blade! Likely over a hundred years old ::tu:: Great find! ::nod::

Thanks for the info. That's pretty exciting. Any idea what that knife might be worth?

Hard to say Bob. Depends on the collectors market. Could be over a $100.00. Could be less. I have seen it go both ways on eBay. You could do a search of closed listings on eBay and see what the current trend is for a Russell Barlow with a straight line stamp is going for. And one with a sheeps foot blade in good condition could up the price even more. Let us know what you find!
