Ring opener knives

Postby bronze4u » Mon Mar 20, 2017 6:43 pm

Hello, I am a 'newbie' here. I am currently collecting the old vintage 'Ring opener', 'Ring Turn', ring Twist' pocket knives, or whatever you like to call them. Please let me know should you have any you'd like to trade, or sell? I also have a fairly large collection of other vintage knives, and straight razors. Cheers

Welcome B4U,

Nice collection of ring turns you have there! I too like the Ring Turns and I have several Schrade Walden & Schrade USA Ring Turns. However, I also have about a dozen Canal Street Cutlery Ring Turns that they made before they closed their factory. The Schrades are stainless, however, the Canal Streets are all different handle materials. I guess I probably need to post a few pictures.

Again,

Welcome to AAPK!

Tom

Hello, thank you Tom! I have around 25 after only collecting the 'ring turns' for just over two months now. I have always collected many different knives, somehow these eluded me? They are really cool! I am just familiar with the Canal's.. Nice! I have a a couple Stainless on the way in the mail...
I am looking for new MOP/Pearl ones.. I have double Humphrey's and then a German made Mop. I see Hammer Brand has a nice ring opener I want to find. And I want a "W.H. Morley" Bone scale ring turn, or any Vintage maker in stag, or bone! If you look on Instagram ever check out 'SPKOLLER' He is a good guy,who has at least 60 ring openers! I'd like seeing some photos for sure Tom.

Cheers,

Kirk

I don't have any Canal Street either.. Jody 44 I have seen a few for sale brand new online... pricey! They are sweet..But for now I prefer the very 'Vintage/Antique ring openers'.

I don't actively collect them but have a couple and none to sell or trade, but when I saw your pictures I was concerned about you opening both blades at the same time. Older knives and some new ones will snap the spring in two when both opposing blades are opened pushing the spring farther than it is meant to go. You sure have a nice collection of them. Welcome to AAPK. ___Dave

Thanks for the AAPK welcome!

Hey, thank you Dave!

Yes - I only did this for the photographs... (well, maybe a few times.. lol) Not only that - many of the rings can't stand the strain. (I was lucky I guess)
I really appreciate the 'heads up' Dave.

I have posted a few other style knives, that I collect on my profile as well, if anyone would like to see.

Kirk, nice knives ::tu:: I like ring opener knives, the jigged bone ones are hard to find.

Please post the pictures here too, I don't do "Instagram" and am sure others here don't either.

Hey Miller Bros, thanks! Boy don't I know it, they are very scarce, or busted when I find one.

I have posted over 50 pictures in my profile 'Visit User Gallery'; in the past two days (here on AAPK)

If anyone has interest they can go have a look in my profile if they like.

I do not have permission to post Mr. (spkoller) 's collection photos.. sorry about that.

* Bellow are four of my 25 ring turns, if you'd like to see more of them look in my profile user galleries.. pages 1, 2, 3

Cheers,

Kirk

So another metal one in. Schrade Walden NY SS755 stainless one.

I know most of the ring turns were stamped for advertising back in their day. This has a logo with the initials SR.
Would anyone recognize this logo?

I thought it possibly was - Coast Guard, Navy, or Marine symbolism?

I appreciate any input.

Cheers,
