Newbie question about etched blades

I just bought a couple of Fight'n Roosters. (a plantation stockman and a melon tester) I have really learned a lot reading all of the care and maintenance posts but I have a quick question about etched blades. The stockman has the etched main blade with Fight'n Rooster on it and the main blade on the melon tester is deeper and says melon tester and has a couple of melons on it. First are both of these referred to as etched? Second is it okay to use somthing like Simichrome and Ren Wax on these blades? I'm sure this has been asked before, I just couldn't find it.

welcome jim, basically anything agressive enough to polish steel could remove the color from an etch. ren wax is a-ok.

I agree with johnnie on the polishing thing. In fact, I've never seen an etched Fight'n Rooster that I would polish the blades on. If the blades have pepper spots, carbon pops, spiders...whatever...they would need some real buffing to take those out. That would almost certainly raise havoc with the etch anyway.
Renaissance Wax is a widely accepted "Go To" protector of many types of surfaces. If you don't have any, I'd recommend putting a little food grade mineral oil on a soft cloth, and then gently wipe the blades as an inexpensive way to protect them, especially the colored etches.

Thanks for the info everybody. They are brand new so they don't really need polishing and I'm going to try to keep them to where they don't need it. I went on vacation two weeks ago in North Carolina and stopped at Cuz's Antique Shop on the way through. I wanted to buy about 20 but was happy with the two that I did buy.
