C. Gray Taylor English Bowie

Post by kootenay joe »

" Although Mr. Taylor now specializes in folding knives, he gained
an early reputation as a maker of fixed-blade art knives. " http://www.cgraytaylor.com/index.html

C.Gray Taylor English Bowie. 12-3/4" OAL , blade measures 8" with 7.25" of cutting edge. 3/16" thick 440C ss . Engraved by Don Davis. Ebony handle with mother of pearl inlays. Scabbard is ebony with a pearl inlay ( has a crack in the pearl, see first pic.). SS guard ,not sure of the scabbard hardware or bolster materials (stainless steel or nickel-silver ?). Condition is pre owned, good condition. Built in the late 1970's . Initials of the original gentleman who commissioned this are on the ricasso, individual unknown.
I have had this knife for a few years and am the second or possibly third owner. I knew what 'quick in hand' referred to but i did not know what i actually feels like until i received this knife. I think it is the perfectly neutral balance that makes this big knife seem light and fast in-hand. It is lovely feeling.
Price: $535. includes shipping in the States or Canada & Paypal fee's too. Also, the heavy canvas storage case with leather accents, pictured,is included.
Please contact me if this knife by one of today's top knife makers interests you.
I will add 2 more pictures in Post # 2 as my internet connection is rather slow.

The last picture shown is for interest only. It is a Buster Warenski "English Bowie" made in 1982, about 4 years after this C. Gray Taylor Bowie. I am a complete amateur here but i do wonder if Mr. Warenski was influenced by this Gray Taylor Bowie ?
O.K., now it's time for someone to buy it. Thanks.
