What knives go with you when you travel, vacation, etc.

TRAVEL-GROUP.jpg
Howdy everyone, 1st thanks for all your thoughts and prayers in the Upper Room
on my recent heart attack, much appreciated !!!

As some of ya know, I spend about 7 months in Arizona, and 5 months in Michigan every year..
I cannot leave home without a group of knives with me, ::shrug::
You never know what is gonna happen in this crazy world we live in, so with knives as well
as firearms, being gone so long I try to put myself at ease with a group of both...
22 Ruger rifle & pistol, Glock 45 auto, 44 mag S & W pistol, 410 Snake Charmer shotgun,
below is the group of knives I took to Arizona on this trip, minus the Spyderco Manix 2 I forgot
was in my pocket and not pictured
Marble's 7" Ideal, 7 inch Trailmaker, Case knife/axe combo, Marble's LoveLess Sport & Cowboy knife, Crawford/Kasper folder, Case 5 blade sowbelly,
Case swinguard,

Just curious what the rest of ya all take with ya on your short and extended trips away from the main camp
I figure I got several situations covered with the group below
Thanks for your opinions on this subject

Will

Just my EDC. Even if it were going to be for months at a time like you, it would still be just my EDC.

I too split my time between the Southwest (NM & AZ) and Michigan. I don't carry as many but when I travel I always take a Gene Langley 4" drop point hunter, a SAK Climber, a Farmer and two Case Amber bone Stockman (6375 & 6318).

Aside from application-specific trip-related knives (fillet knife, for example), I generally travel with my EDC (these days that is most often a Case trapper or Schrade 194OT, and a Case sodbuster). There is a Gerber multi-tool in my laptop case/bookbag. In my truck, there are a couple of TL-29s and a Catt 225Q or Ka-Bar, and often a machete, in my truck. I usually have a boot knife (a Russell Sting or similar) somewhere in my gear.

If I have to go somewhere and can't carry my usual stuff, I'll ship spares ahead, or have left knives with friends on a previous trip.

My travel kit also includes a credit-card sized diamond plate for sharpening.

Stagman, you might think about adding something with some reach. Maybe an ought-six or similar?

I have a Ruger M-77 bolt in .270 caliber with 3x9 Bushnell banner lite site scope on it
had it since 1980...
this is just what I dragged 2200 mi this year...
ya never know if you are gonna get back to your other base in this world today
major events , weather, terroist taking out power grid, mass panic,
people just loosing it if one of these events occured, these things are very much in play in this world of 2015... I just try to have a fighting chance for me and my wife's sake.....
ain't no 911 to dial 23 mi away from the cop shop, drive 19 mi just to small grocery store
I was just curious if folk's took several of their favorites with them on extended trips

I worry more about shorter-term emergencies. Tornados for example, or ice storms, or hurricanes--much of my kit evolved from experience gained from working with those problems. You can't carry enough to deal with any conceivable situation that might arise, but a basic versatile kit can get you pretty far, as will a creative approach to problem-solving.

(None of the knives were much good for dealing with alligators though. . . which goes to show you can't think of everything.)

A lightweight EDC carry knife

A whittler and a block of wood to pass the time while sitting outside

A hunting knife in a belt sheath… if we are going where we’ll be hiking on trails

Only the cheap ones. I have a tendency to leave or loose things when I travel.... :(

This knife is getting ready to make her 3rd trip to Pensacola. She's been everywhere from East Coast to Ireland.
