I was wondering if anyone can tell me when Buck made the 501 with 3 pins? One book says the earliest ones made had 3 pins, But it does not say what years those were. So when did they have the 3 pins and when did they change over to 2 pins in the macerate handles?
Thank you!

The rocker rivet was exposed on the 501 during the first few years of production (1975-1977) and then was hidden beginning in about 1978.

Okay thank you so much. So, were there no 501's with 3 pins that would have been wood? They should all be marcarta correct?

According to Joe Houser the micarta was phased out in about 1980 and replaced with stained birch.
