Any Buck collectors out there

Hi Gang.

I am trying to find a little bit of information about a knife a collector buddy has in his collection. It is a Stag handled Duke (500). On the blade is stamped Limited Buck Grizzly One of 250 and a profile of a big Griz. It is finger grooved and I have only seen that on a few Buck knives. It comes with a really sweet holster style sheath that has 500 Custom on the back of it. Any idea what it is and it's worth? I am thinking of doing some horse trading. Maybe some Seahorse trading

The seller did not know where it was made.

THIS KNIFE IS A WONDERFUL LOCK-BACK THAT IS VERY SHARP AND MADE OF A COCA BOLA WOOD. LOCK-BACK WITH A 3.5 INCH STAINLESS STEEL BLADE.

I can't help you out either. I did find this on buckknives.com site for dating. See if your knife has any of the symbols and that may help with that much of it.

That knife is not mine. I was thinking of getting it but I think it's not USA made.

The size 3 1/2 ", finger nail groove and the sheath makes me think it is not for me. But I am not a BUCK knife man.
But it look older than the CHINA BUCKS.????

i think i read somewhere ther was a large version and a smaller version. big grizzly and little grizzly. i'm still lookin.

Or Pakistan. I've seen 7 or 8 different Buck 110 knock-offs from there. I don't know if thats Cocobolo either. It looks like laminated wood or what Frost cutlery calls Frostwood.
If the seller doesn't know, it's not a Buck. If it's a 110 or 112 it will have USA and a symbol to indicate the year made.

That is a nice looking setup...
Checking the Buck Forum only finds mention of a 500 Grizzly... ...possibly aftermarket by someone like Frost, but no sure thing...

I agree with the others here...not a Buck.
Buck almost always marks the sheath...never seen that pull on a common Buck...most back bar pins I've seen on Buck lockbacks are steel...and the size is way too small for anything but a mismeasured Model 55 (3 3/8")...no defined swedge on the clip... ::blah:: ::blah::

I too never seen that Pull on a common Buck.
The Sheath look not a Buck.
The Size too.
I mentioned those 3 cuz to me they are not BUCK.

Well, after visiting that auction, I must correct myself.
It mentions a 4" closed length, with a 3 1/2" blade...that would correspond to a Buck 112 Ranger in size.

Still don't think it's a Buck. He may mean Buckmasters like this.....

Wow, all I can figure out is that it was made before 1986 (no mark, saw other 500's with date mark). It was likely done in the Buck custom shop. The sheath might be hand made, first Buck sheath I've seen like this, but they could make one, easy design based on an old cowboy holster (pistol). There are a few Buck 500 on ebay, nothing like this one though. The Buck tang stamp may be an indicator of when made. Sorry not much help.

I really like the knife and am going to try to trade him out of it. He offered it to me in a trade for a Case Winchester Classic 62031 pattern. It was a choice between this or a Case 1970's copperhead. Well, I can hardly ever resist a copperhead so I went with that. No regrets, I assure you. But definitely like this lockback.

Hukk, if I get it I will post a few more angles on the sheath. It is even more unusual then it looks. The leather looks to be more than about 1/4 inch thick or more and it is triple thickness in places.

Yeah, the more I look at the pics the more I like it. Now to see if the trade is gonna happen....
