Let's See Knives with Exotic Handles

We all agree that knife collecting is a really fun and rewarding hobby. For some of us, customizing knives that may or may not have a lot of collector value is a lot of fun AND it allows us to express our individualism through our knives.

Let's see your custom knives. I'll start with 2 knives that Michael Prater did for me. One is a 5 blade Bulldog Anglo-Saxon Whittler and the other is a 3 blade Bulldog Anglo-Saxon Whittler. They make a big brother/little brother set.

Both have snow white mammoth ivory scales on the mark side (for a future scrimshaw project). These were purchased at Bayan Bay. The pile side on both is some really nice mamoth tooth purchased from fine_turnage_productions of eBay. Both have extensive filework.

Here is the DHH knife, fileworked by Colin Paterson, also both sides are scrimshawed by Colin Paterson on BOTH sides. My son will have it next week. It's on it's way there now. I guess I'll need a new avatar

This is the same knife I use in my avatar.

It's good that my son and I share the same initials.

I put a couple picture of a Bulldog Calf Roper that was rehandled and scrimshawed by Howard Thomas.

Beauties you have there Hukk...

Here is a little Gentleman's Knife from Gary DeBrock, a Montanan like Colin. Pattern-welded cable, Titanium liners, Mammoth, with a little filework and engraving, just for fun.....

Wow, that is a nice custom you have Bill. Titanium liners are a real pain to work with. I was just getting started when I had surgery.
Everything on that knife is exotic, pattern welded cable is some neat stuff!

A couple of years ago (almost three) when I had my first SFO (special factory order) of Harness Jacks made by Queen Cutlery, I had these seven made with exotic handles.

Hukk, your bulldog toenail in elephant etch and scrimshaw is my pick for First Prize of all the pocket knives I have seen so far.
The unique combination of pattern, material, design, artistry, detail and general, overall appeal are nothing less than phenominal.
Everything just fits together pefectly, and passing it on from father to son now adds to the charm of the knife.
Congratulations on a fine piece which was a worthy heirloom even from the first day it was made.
This may not be high praise coming from a raw newbie, but it's what I think.

Thank you! He turns 18 in October and we just finished 2 weeks of customizing knives and I decided to give it to him early. You may be a newbie (aren't we all at something) but you'll find many veterans that think the same.

The work was done by a fellow member, Colin Paterson aka realmontanan and here is his website. Believe it or not he was/is a beginer at scrimshaw, but an artist all his life. Read his Bio if you get a chance. Great guy to work with and talk to. I know he was busy moving.

Thanks for the compliments gents, I really do enjoy seeing some exotic handles/knives that we might never see anywhere else.

Charlie that group is certainly special.
Hukk, keep pulling those bad boys out and showing us.

Here are a couple of neck, or pocket carry knives.
Chuck Gedraitis in Mammoth and blued pattern-welded...and J. Neilson in Giraffe bone and pattern-welded steel...both have Stingray sheaths.
And, an almost legendary D'Holder Unfolder, in Mammoth.....

Great knives

I do not have very many exotics, but I do have these three pieces scrimshawed by Colin. I've showed them off here before and they are on Colin's website, so you might have seen them before.

All three are in the top five favorite knives that I own. Michael Prater did the filework, bolster work, and rehandle on the Russlock. Mr. Paterson reworked the toenail himself and put together the lockback. I wish you could see these in hand. Pictures just don't cut it.
