Auction to benefit forum

Post by Gunsmoke47 »

This is a thought. To help out Bryan and this great forum. Have members auctions. (Just like ebay) only to benefit this forum. Put up a knife you would be willing to sell, Start it at a dollar, or ten, or a hundred, whatever you choose. (knives will sell themselves) The thing is, the winner will pay Bryan (this forum) instead of you. Seller gives up a knife for this forum,..... buyer pays for a knife for this forum. It is a donation from both parties! What do yall think? Kind of like the generosity I have seen on the monthly give away, only this one goes straight to the forum. Kelley
PS. Not to be a 1 time thing. Set up a whole new catagory on the forum, so as whenever someone wants to donate, it's there.

Alright guys Thanks for the response! ::tu:: I thought maybe my idea was stupid or something. :? Here is how it works: I will start this off with a mid 70'ts Case Canoe red bone (Canoe etch on blade). The starting bid is $1.00. The hammer will fall at 12:00 noon CST. Saturday the 14th. (I am going on vacation tomorrow and won't be back til late Friday night the 13th) Post your bids on this thread and whoever has the high bid at 12:00 noon on the 14th wins the knife. The winner will send payment (via whatever means) to Bryan (Admin of this forum). All money and proceeds of auctions go to Bryan and AAPK forum. As soon as payment is recieved to Bryan, the knife will be shipped to the winning bidder. By the way..... I will pay the shipping ::tu:: Here is the knife you will be winning.

Another
PS. If Bryan and the mods think this is a good idea, might set up a whole new catagory. This is not a high pressure type thing. Just if someone has an extra knife and wants to donate to the forum...... it's a good cause ::nod:: Kelley
PSS. Forgot to say, this knife is near mint, and if you don't like it, I'll take it back! and still give this forum the money (Not your money.... mine!) ::tounge:: ::tu::

I listed a Case XX 6265 on the trade forum. If one of the moderators would like to move it over here, I will put it up for sale, for the cause of AAPK. If and when it sells, I will send the buyer the knife and the buyer can just send the money to Bryan. To keep the confusion down about which knife is which, just send your bids by PM to me. I, too, will start it at $1.00 and the auction will end Saturday, July 14th, at midnight.
The knife is a XX with the small xx(no U.S.A.) There is some pitting on one of the backsprings, but should clean up if you choose to do so. There is some VERY minor pitting on the blades. The knife is un-sharpened and has never been cleaned. It retains most of the factory shine. I will throw in the leather belt sheath.
Here's a good opportunity to help out the Club that we are proud to be members of.
We don't pay any dues and Bryan shouldn't have to be out of any money out of his pocket, just to keep the Club going. Thanks, ya'll.

Well now... you fellas sure are top shelf ::nod::

I haven't had a chance to give this much thought, but now I see what Kelly has in mind here.

I'll set up a special forum for knife auctions like this today to maintain organization. ::nod::

I'm open to suggestions for what to do with the proceeds. Feel free to cast your votes on that. I'm kinda leaning toward using the $ for advertising AAPK in KnifeWorld for a month or 2. AAPK's run an ad there in the past and the results were pretty good. ::nod::

Very generous. Much appreciation extended to all! ::tu::

I'll try to get a sticky thread on there soon for instructions and to get suggestions on where the money should go for donated auction items etc. I'll also follow up to let everyone know where the proceeds will be going from all donated items.

Hey, Brian...

Hi Bryan...
In my opinion, you are the one that knows how the money can be best used. I'm sure that whatever you decide to spend it on will be where it is needed most.
Thanks for all you do. This looks like a good way for us to pay you back. Of course, I guess we could be buying more knives from you, too, huh?

I'm throwing this out here as a rough draft for the new auction forum instructions to be posted as a sticky thread.

Now please understand that I am not good at comunicating my ideas (especially through written words), so I might need a little help. There are certaintly some stuff I'm overlooking as I just put it together in hast.

If you have time, please throw out some suggestions. Do we need more guidelines? Some restrictions? Am I going the right direction with this? Is there stuff that should not be on here? ...
This forum is designated for AAPK members to put knives and knife related items up for auction.

Many of the AAPK members feel this is a good way to give a little back by auctioning knives and donating some or all of the proceeds back to AAPK for maintenance, advertising, new additions, and other expenses.

Gunsmoke47 pioneered the idea via a suggestion and we are grateful to him for sharing his idea.

If you have something to auction, simply post a new topic with the item title as your subject. In the message body, make sure to include a description, shipping and insurance charges, payment methods accepted, end time and date of the auction (with time zone), and include one or more picture if possible.

If you plan to donate some or all of the proceeds to AAPK, please include that information along with percentages into your message body as well.

To bid on an item up for auction, simply post your bid as a reply to the topic. The seller will be responsible for contacting the winning bidder with payment options through private message or email. If the auction proceeds are donated to AAPK, you can pay with PayPal, money order, or personal check. Bryan will contact the winning bidder with AAPK’s PayPal address and shipping address where the payment can be sent.

If you have suggestions for where AAPK should allocate donated funds, please email them to Bryan at [email protected].

We will keep a tally of total funds taken in along with the expenditures when the funds are spent. Bryan will create a web page for this as soon as he can.
Thanks in advance!

Hey Bryan, I have seen some forums pages just have a donation paypal link as well, another way to generate $$ for the site. So those of us that may not win a knife, can still contribute in some way!
Just another ideal for you to mull over, as there are many of us that are big supporters of the site.
Somthing else to think about!

Hey Bryan, this is just my opinion, but I personally think ALL procedes in this particular catagory should go to aapk. I think if whoever wants to sell a knife for personal gain, there is ample places on this forum to do that. My opinion only of coarse. ::shrug:: Kelley

I kinda think it might be a neat new way for any member to sell some knives on the site. I figure the sellers can choose to donate all, some, or none of the proceeds. I'd hate to make it 100% exclusive to AAPK knife donations. I like the idea too much to have that as a restriction. That's just my quick opinion about it though and I'll go with whatever the majority thinks is best. ::tu::

Anyone else have thoughts to share?

Thanks,
Bryan
