KA-BAR Olean NY MK1?

Post by rexstubbins »

Just picked this one up today but I'm having trouble identifying it.

The style looks somewhat like an MK1 based on the pommel and handle. The blade looks like MK2 based on the blood groove.

Am I looking at a hybrid that someone kluged together or is this an MK1? I know there were a lot of variations of the blade design for MK1's but so far haven't seen one like this.

The words vintage and antique are vague. Actually most words are vague. Even the word vague is vague.

Looks like a KA-BAR MK2 with a Pal RH-36 or similar pommel added. I've never seen a Kabar MK2 with a pommel like that.

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Yep it looks like someone Frankenknived it. Too bad because the Olean USMC MK2's seem to be pretty valuable.

Looks like a Pal to me . The MK2 is a Navy knife with round stacked leather and flat steel cap ... it's a super great knife ! I happen to have both knives because they are favorites . Pal bought Remington [ knives ] and basically put together what was laying around the factory ... they are good knives for sure .
In the pic , the MK2 is to the right of the PAL
