anybody know the value of these items?

Post by jasonworld »

I lucked into these items right here threw inheritance. I must say that after getting them the history and the knives have made me curious. I have read some articles about the case knives and it's most interesting. The way the blades are numbered and markings and the many years of production by Case. The Case knives have some info on the net about them but the other two knives not much there. I have only figured out who made them and not the value . I don't care if they are not worth that much they are still cool to me.

I posted the knives at this other website and I'm not going to say any names but they made me feel like I was worthless!! They were all about getting there money to review the knives and I already knew they were not worth a grand or anything like that but it still would be nice to know if they are a 50 dollar item or 100 dollar item(just curious)I can bet you if I ever getting into collecting serious I will not go there.

I have enjoyed looking at pictures of knives on the net and I hope maybe some will enjoy my knives too. Anyone that has any ideas of what the knives may be worth the input will be gladly appreciated!! I can see in the future that I will find myself looking at knives at antique shops and gun shows.

Here is the first one 1976 buffalo bill commemorative edition Schrade knife and coin only 24,000 made-(Value ?)

The second is a Sam Houston American hero series done in the 70's with a case knife. (One of 300). I ran the number on the blade(5254 ssp)came back as a 76 Trapper genuine stag Razor edge etch(value of the knife 120)Does the box and number set make it more valuable my first guess would be probably not but the knife should keep it's value I'm guessing.

The third is a 76 Bicentennial set done by Taylor cutlery in tennessee.(1000 made) Neat looking knifes to me. I have have no idea of the value of them today only they cost 32 dollars new a piece back then.

The fourth is another case knife. No edition set to this one just a case knife. I ran the number on the blade 6292 came back a 1973 redishbone jackknife(value 55).

The case knives value not to hard to figure out but the schrade and Taylor ::shrug:: ones have been most difficult.Hope you enjoy the pics thanks!!

Heres a link to a Schrade knife like yours on E-bay. Its started at $50. You can watch it to find out the actual market value of the knife. I would not expect the price to exceed $75.00 .

Commerative knives are not usually a great investment. Alot of the times it takes several years for the market value to catch up with the issue price.
That Sam Houston knife sure is sweet, having Stag handles sure doesn't hurt either. The box and papers will add to the value, maybe $25 give or take. I see fingerprints on the blades, it would probably be a good idea to go over the blades with a soft cloth and a bit of oil , that'll keep the rust away and protect the value of your knives.

24,000 is a huge number in knife production. These days even Case rarely makes more than 3000 ( and those are, humorously enough, the Limited Edition Series). So I wouldn't get real excited about the Schrade; $75 would probably be very optimistic.

On the other hand, a Case Stag trapper with etch of a cow pile on the blades will go for $75 if in mint condition; thus the Houston is probably your gem in the bunch. BTW, the Camillus insert does not go with the Case knife.

The Case red bone is probably a $60-90 knife in the current condition; and the other two really just depend on the marketplace.
