From PA!!

Post by upnorth »

A friend in Kentucky sent me this one. It's my first C.PLATTS'SONS, ELDRED,PA knife, and a Harness Jack to boot! The blade is a bit worn. but you can still see it's essence, and the punch is way cool; it is one I see from time to time on real early Case or Case-related knives.

Very cool Charlie! :mrgreen:
When do you figure she was made?
The punch is quite unusual it only made 1 size hole in your harness. No taper in that punch at all.
Thanks for showing her off! ::tu::

The History!

Post by upnorth »

All from Goins;
Charles Platts opened his cutlery in Gowanda, NY with his sons in 1896, so it was called C.PLATTS & SONS, GOWANDA,NY.
Soon moved to bigger premises, 1897, in Eldred, PA. Name change of place only, C.PLATTS & SONS, ELDRED,PA.
3 years later, 1900, Charles died, and his sons changed the name to C.PLATTS' SONS, ELDRED,PA. (see the difference?)
By 1903, H.N.Platts was buying out his brothers, and C.PLATTS closed in 1905. So my knife is likely from 1900-1905!
Short history, uncommon pattern, makes the knife pretty rare I figure.

Seems to me, given the name on this knife that it really should have come to me. :mrgreen: I would love to examine that handle closer. I really like the pattern and the excellent old blades. Just send it my way, although it may not come back ::shrug::

Congratulations upnorth
