Case Sodbuster Knives

Being new to this board,I have aquestion and hope you folks can help. I am looking for any and all information on the Case Sodbuster knife and specifically the KentuckyBicentennal Series. Is there a list of such knives by dates, locations, special runs or features. Any suggestions as to where I might find such information. Thanks Much

The only thing I know about sodbusters are that they are great working knives. I carry one at work with me and it gets sharper every day

Hi Casebuster,

Welcome to the forums. I just happen to have a copy of Romance of Collecting Case XX Knives by Mrs. Dewey P. (Lavona) Ferguson right here on my desk. There is some real good info regarding the Sodbuster.

I gather the first full sized Sodbuster came out in 1967 with Black Composition handle covers. The Jr. was soon to follow in 1970.

The book lists the following Kentucky Bicentennial Sod Buster Jr.'s...

Green Delrin - G147 - Small Serial Number 1-15000
Green Delrin - G147 - Large Serial Number 1-9,999
Green Delrin - G147 - Large Serial Number J1 - J9,999
Green Delrin - G147 - Large Serial Number S1 - S9,999
(All of the above have 5 dot 1975 tang stamp but were manufactured and released in 1974 according to the book. - All have chrome vanadium steel blades)

Pakkawood - P137 SS - Serial Number 1 - 30,000
(1975 5 dot tang stamp manufactured in 1975 - stainless steel blades and springs)

Genuine Stag - 5137 Stainless - 3,400 made
Genuine Stag - 5137 SS - 26,600 made
(1976 4 dot tang stamp - manufactured in 1976 - 26,600 of these were stamped SS, and 3,400 were stamped with the word stainless. - Change in the manufacturing die cited for the 3,400 that were stamped "Stainless").

All serial numbers are stamped on the liners.

I think that covers the Kentucky Bicentenial Sodbuster Jr.s.

I should have mentioned that the book is the 4th edition. It is Pink in color. You can't miss it when you see it and it's easy to find on your bookshelf if you ever need it

. They come up on eBay from time to time.

I think the sweet Lavona authored a few updates after the passing of Dewey Ferguson. Now that's a good woman for ya

!

sodbusters are the best knives for me i have a yellow CV sodbuster jr
only sharpened it once!
