Some Shop Tools

Post by Hukk »

Here is a part of my shop layout. I have other storage for different woods, the 40 LB Aluminum quench plates. I use other areas for my sheath making supplies. Wheww, there's a bunch. The back wall has all kinds of storage for other miscellaneous stuff. You know --JUNK, the stuff I pick up and think, gee, that would look good as a handle. I use a leather apron (Welder's Apron) around the shop. Hot sparks do put holes in clothes, always the one's the wife just bought. ::doh:: I wear leather gloves when I have coarse belts on the Bader, want to see skin fly off your knuckles? Does it right quick. There is also an area for quench oils and a hot plate to heat the oil in some cases.

Well, that's some of it.

Great shop, Hukk...
Looks like you have ALMOST everything you need. Of course, you could never get ALL that you need. RIGHT? Thanks for taking the time to do this. Hopefully, it will inspire others, to do the same.

  There's ALWAYS another tool that I see and think, man, some day I gotta get me one of those. I still need to do a voltage/color chart for the titanim annodizing. I was waiting to get a labratory grade hot plate off ebay and I just got one for $40.00 or so of ebay. The hot plate is to heat quench oils and an etchant for the titanium prior to annodizing. Under one bench you can see a Variac that will be for annodizing aluminum, need current, not voltage for aluminum. I did not take any pictures of the dozens of hand tools, including 8-9 hammers. The only power tool that needs improving is the metal cutting bandsaw. It works ok, but could be better.

High on my priority list is a 2X72. There is so much you can do with them.

Thank You!
Pop's has some great prices on new Baders. If you pay by cashiers check or anything other than something that places a charge (unsure of personal checks, I don't remember) you could get the whole set up for the price you would pay at Jantz or other catalog source for just the grinder, saves a few hundred $$. He charges a higher price for credit card purchases, good guy to talk to and will set you up and be honest.

I purchased it about a year ago, seems it aws a little cheaper than. I did get the platen, fork attachnet, and 10 inch wheel. Then I slowly picked up bargains on ebay, a slack belt attachment that is also good for flat grinding (shown in my picture) and 8, 6, 5, and 3 inch wheels. I'm done buying for that and practice on scrap (when time allows).

Thanks, I've been working away at some knives and sheaths. Trying my hand at sheath inlays of snakeskin and other leathers. I only make sheaths for the knives I make because I hand sew everything. I'd ask for one for Christmas  BUT my wife would just give me on of those looks. ::doh:: A sewing machine for sheaths would be expensive and I could not use beeswax and pine pitch on the flax thread. I use that because the pine pitch will prevent mold, even when it gets wet often.

My son will be here on June 3 and we are going to have fun in the shop and do a little target shooting. I can hardly wait! ::ds::
