Unknown maker
This is a small 5 inch fixed blade that doesn't have any identifiable marks on it. It is well made and takes a good edge. I have only used it for cutting out the ivories on a couple of bull elk. I picked the knife up for $5.00 at an estate sale.

Re: Unknown maker
That brass pommel has me puzzled.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Re: Unknown maker
A bit off topic but since I'm not an elk hunter (yet) can you please expand on what this phrase means please?
"cutting out the ivories on a couple of bull elk"
Thanks.

Re: Unknown maker
Stagman is correct Phil. Elk have 2 ivory teeth in their mouth. They are actually incisor teeth, left from the evolvement of the elk from ancient times. Elk are now browsers. The older they are the more beautiful the ivories are. Cut out of the mouth, they make for a beautiful piece when mounted on a slide for a bolo tie. I have a couple of pair that I got from bulls which were 6 or 7 yrs in age. The ivories have light brown rings encircling them, such as growth rings. Some men have them mounted on cufflinks. Others have them mounted in sterling, scrimshawed, put on a nice sterling chain, and wear around their necks. Collecting the ivories are part of the hunt Phil. No disrespect to the animal intended. Here is a picture of elk ivory.
When I get good, I plan on using these in either a sheath or knife handle somehow.
