Bradford Cutlery branded Case knives?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Bradford Cutlery branded Case knives?

Okay, I purchased this Case knife simply because I liked it's appearance... And, to have a hawkbill bladed knife in my collection, which my father preferred as an EDC. My question is, it seems that some other company received the rights to use the Bradford Cutlery name brand... How is Case able to use this same name? I may be mistaken, but I believe it was SMKW that has the tradename rights? Anyhow, of course Case is located in Bradford PA, so the name fits their using it very well :-) Can anyone tell me anything more about Case' use of this name and this newer line of Bradford branded knives. Thanks in advance :-)

Oh, btw, nowhere on the box of this new knife was there any mention of using the Bradford Cutlery name under any sort of license... so I am confused as to who really holds the rights to the Bradford Cutlery trade name... ??? :-)

Look on line at the W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. web site and look for W.R.Case Premium Knives and you will find Bradford Cutlery knives listed with pictures. ::tu::

Yes.. thanks, buddy.. But, even though I had seen that on their site... they have nothing concerning the questions on this tradename, or what future plans are to continue using it or not. I am almost positive that another firm owns the rights to use that brand name... but I guess eventually all facts will come to light :-)

I did a little internet digging, and yes, it was SMKW that got the rights to use the Bradford Cutlery tradename. They actually place the "TM" after the brand on their site. Here is a picture I borrowed from their site showing one of their models. I would guess GEC or maybe Queen is making this one for them. Anyhow, I don't believe Case has the "TM" letters placed after Bradford Cutlery on any of their wording, so maybe they started this Bradford Cutlery name use prior to SMKW getting the tradename rights, so will likely be used just on their existing offered models, but maybe not offer anything else to avoid tradename problems with SMKW. All these are just my guesses... since I obviously have no clue on this situation :-) In any "Case" (pun intended), maybe these Case Bradford Cutlery models being offered will become somewhat unique in the Case brand history... or, maybe not ;-)

If I properly interpret the findings of the site listed below , we may not see any more "BRADFORD CUTLERY" knives from SMKW .

Very interesting, thank you :-) I wonder what all was involved for SMKW to have lost or abandoned the Bradford Cutlery tradename? I also wonder if Case will continue with it's use, and if they are themselves in plans of getting that trademark registered under Case' umbrella? The knife world can be pretty facinating! :-)
