What is the difference when I see them advertised as middleman? Thanks for any help

34OT was the model number, Middleman was the model name.
It is just that simple.
Schrade named most of the Old Timers and Uncle Henry knives, in addition to numbering them.
They named most of the Open Stock knives, but the names were more descriptive of the pattern than they were unique names for a specific pattern; like "Premium Stock knife, Texas pattern," "Slim Premium Stock Knife," "Serpentine pattern," or "Slim Senator" just to name a few.
However since we are talking about Schrade, they did give unique names to some of the Open Stock knives, just to confuse collectors I think!
For example;
809M was called "Esquire"
848 was called "Cosmopolitan"
and the 849 was called the "Executive."

With Schrade virtually nothing is carved in stone,
though a few things may be etched in Jell-O.

Could mean they still have the box which
some have middleman on the flap as well
as 34OT (like the blue striped box)
Now you got me trying to remember which pattern had
it's nickname changed after the first year, drats!

You are right.
Also the 858UH King Ranch.
The name was changed to Senior Ranch in 2002.

I think there was another one that had the name changed when they reintroduced it after a break in production.
