anybody got the time?

time frame that is. just aquired - clauss utility or rope? knife? i'be seen the cursive clauss connected with case(1905-1940). this one i can't find. post 1940? also on tang is pk4. 4" closed. any help appreciated.

I have seen pre-WWII Clauss pocket knives made by Case, Schatt & Morgan/Queen City, Robeson, and Utica.

That one does look newer than WWII era and I have never seen a Clauss knife with a tang stamp like that. My inital take on seeing the pic, was that its a post 1950 Kutmaster. But it may not be. Are the handles real wood, or delrin grained to look like wood?

they seem to be the same material as a lot of other work knives like m. klein, etc. only a lot more grain showing in the plastic. i wonder if the trademark was picked up after 1940.

Since it is plastic and since Kutmaster did offer that pattern, then I am going to guess that it was made by Utica Cutlery on contract between the mid 60's and the mid 70's. I say mid 60's because I don't belifve that any company was using a plastic imitation wood prior to that.

I assume that it was made on contract for Clauss Cutlery (they are still in business today, I believe). It is pretty unusual, I have never seen a modern Clauss marked pocketknife before.
