BCS knife?

Post by mrwatch »

Just got a knife off the Bay. Magnet sticks to the steel. Blade is marked as "custom"
under a serpent etched on the blade and also a rams head etched on it. Was listed as an BCS knife and they may be a maker or dealer. The leather sheath is signed Bodean leather works. Ny idea of maker or age? ::shrug::
Thanks, Bob

Hard to see any detail as the pic is really small and doesn't enlarge. It does look like a custom knife maker's product but I have seen similar ones that at first look custom but are in fact made in India. Some close up or high resolution pics would help.

This type of BCS hand made knife was made by Bob Schopp and his wife from Montana. He made knives for a major wholesaler in Helena . As I undertand it he had several employees and a prosperous business until the wholesaler found a foreign supplier who could supply him at much lower costs. BCS business suffered and Bob continued making his knives alone which he sold at the big motorcycle meets.

What you have is what collectors called a "tourist" knife. These were sold wholesale to gift shops mostly in the West for sale as souvenirs to hunters and tourists.

BODEAN made the sheaths for the same wholesaler.

The later knives were different.

I collect his knives.

I do not know of his making any folding knives. He died in 2001 .
