New main blade on shapleigh de

Post by Salernoslim »

I just got this knife and I absolutely love it. The two blades it has are worn but functional. The knife is in great shape all the way around other than the missing/broken main blade. I've never done anything other than cleaning as far as repair goes so I wouldn't know where to start. If someone has the means to fix it I would gladly pay for time and material and if not I'm willing to try it myself but I'd definitely need tons of step by step help. Thanks in advance for any help, suggestions, or ideas.

Are you sure the mail blade is missing?
I am not familiar with the with a lot of the older Shapleigh DE knives, but it looks to me like the spear blade is the master. Schrade/Imperial made some of the more recent ones, IIRC.

If you can figure out who made the knife for Shapleigh and which blade you need and what the shape is, maybe someone has a blade to fit it. ::shrug::

I can see why you like the knife. She is a beaut, for sure. There are a lot of folks that would put a new blade on that rascal for you. Hope they chime in. I think we will need a lot of info though. Give the length of the knife closed, exactly and any info from the tang stamp. Especially form that main blade. Pictures of the stamp would be really good. There are folks here that may have a blade for you.

Thanks chief. I hope so. I'll put up some pics next to a ruler and some more detailed ones also. I really love that knife and its in such great shape for its age, the old dog is begging for a blade.
