HEY!
It may be a Valley Forge. They were made in NJ. These are very collectable espcially if it has a bone handle. A photo would be great if you can. Also one of the tang stamp. I beleive there is another company in NJ that made them too????? I would need to see it. How is the condition? Let us know.

It does have bone yellowish handles, i think it reads maybe newark new jersey. apears to have nickle capon the ends and maybe a couple brass pins through it. a little chip on on side of the bone. it is old and metal is basically black. I will try to get some pictures of it up tommorow, my wife knows how to do all the picture things.

YES, Valley Forge Cutlery was from Newark NJ. Use a mag lense to see if the bone is indeed real. You should be able to see very small pores. Nice thing to remember folks. I imagine that yours is real bone but a photo would help. You see these now and then on ebay. In decent condition there are popular. You may have a nice find. Looking forward to seeing it.

plier knife...
Your knife was made by the O(Oscar). Barnett Tool Co. Newark N.J. They were in business between 1900 & 1915(Goins book). If you will look on the plier handle, you will probably find an " HHH" stamped on it. That, for some reason, was their trademark. If the blade is not marked "O(Oscar). Barnett Tool Co." there is a very good chance that it has been replaced.
I own 2 of these. I have seen them sell on freebay, er, uh, eBay, in good, used original condition, for $60-$90.
The blade may possibly be original, but I doubt it. If it is, it would have been a contract knife. If you can prove it, it would probably be worth more money. If not, ????...
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, are you talking about one like on ebay right now? there is a barnett tool company on there that shows the HHH you are refering to. This one does not have that were the H H H is on there is where mine says the m_ _ FORD MFG CO then the second line has stamped NEWARK N_ the second line is a little smaller print. was there any other's beside H H H?

I know i am really interested in this too. I notice on the Barnett one the way the awl fit's deeper into the handle then mine. it is flush but there is a considerable cut out in the one on ebay also. 18th inch into handle area. Is this that but an earlier year? PA did you say there were other companies in newark makeing these too. i have not seen anything other then what is on ebay now and what you have said and i have check a few times in the last two years. I found this 15 years ago in a bread pan in a garage, the pan was full of water. i had to let it soak in WD for a month to open it. this one is also considerably ruffer then the one on ebay, where as the rivits coming thruough it are almost bent to one side in the bone almost bent over.

plier knife...
Hi, ya'll...
I really don't know what to say. All I know is, that I have seen quite a few of these, in the last 35+ years and the only ones I have seen, that I thought were authentic had the blade marked "O. Barnett Tool Co.". I don't claim to be "The" authority on ANY kind of knives.
One of these knives sold on eBay a while back, with a Winchester blade in it. It didn't look right to me but it brought a big price. I think the buyer got "took".
I will say though, that the blade in your knife, seems to be consistent, with the 2 that I have
Same style blade, same long pull. It is very possible, that Barnett made this knife and sold it on a contract basis, to other companies(not Winchester)...
I hope that somebody out there can confirm that your knife is a contract knife. If that can be proven, you have a very rare knife and it should be worth a premium.
Just my humble opinion... CCBill...

HI!
I checked Levine's guide and found the following information as I recalled. First was the HHH as noted, then their was the Valley Forge version called a "radio knife" It is made quite a bit differently though. Thus my reason for asking for a photo. It could have also been stamped H boker & Co. improved Cutlery USA when Boker owned Valley Forge and it was noted that they made them for CASE too. In addtion is a W H Morley & Sons/Germany. This is a little more like the HHH. Lastly is the Heilrath Patent they used the "PLI-R-NIF" stamp In mint and I stress MINT condtion the values would be in order $300,$250, $900 for a CASE and $300 for Morley and lastly $250 for Heilrath. Hope this helps
I leave today for a week in TN and knife hunting. Can't wait

One, can really see the age, and the tapping of all the rivits. this looks older and less refined then the one you guys are showing me from Barnett, but it is defienately closer to barnett then the Valley Forge i see on ebay right now, does anybody have any pictures of a valley Forge model like this. here is a couple more pictures, i was trying to get the writing on the plier handle to show in different lights but as you can tell it is a little dark in places.
