early 4 line camillus scout w/compass

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

early 4 line camillus scout w/compass

Post by carrmillus »

...dale, finally got this one and cleaned it up, it's the first one i've run across with the compass intact. after i cleaned the clear bezel, you can see the witness marks and the compass markings. i decided not to try and disassemble it, it really doesn't bother me that the needle doesn't move, i doubt if something that small ever worked very well. only had to file about 1/16" off the screwdriver blade to repair it. it has great snap, no wobble, handles are good,the 4 line marking is very faint, but readable. i love the old original style can opener, they work as good as any of the newer versions. took it to the legion meeting and showed it to an older(than me) gentleman who used to be a scoutmaster here in tupelo, and he had one years ago that he lost somewhere, said it really brought back memories......

That is awesome! ::tu::
If you want to send me some pics, I can post them for you.
My new scanner will even turn negatives into positive images that I can print.
It might be cheaper to send negatives rather than send the pics themselves.
