Re: please,,not the kids
Few are aware that the worst school attack in U.S. history occurred back in the 1927 when scores were killed at an elementary school in Bath Michigan. I had heard of it. The school was blown up with explosives. I just looked up that event for the first time. 45 primary/elementary school children were killed.55 were wounded. The perpetrator set off a powerful bomb inside the school; then as crowds of people gathered outside he went to his car filled with explosives and shrapnel, detonating it and killing more.
I review these horrific events looking for context as a way,I suppose, of handling in some way the awful reality confronting us.
There will be days of talk about the perpetrator, his psychology, the weapons used, our culture. I suspect little discussion will be given to the stark reality: the presence of evil. The term evil will surely be used but hardly discussed.
Today's events are not unique. Evil is like a seemingly dormant volcano, always present, that chooses its moments of irruption. Not infrequently it is the youngest who are the targets of evil because they are the most defenseless, the most innocent; indeed they are in many ways the most loveable.
And so it is the young who become the focus of evil. Nothing new about this. Herod thought killing the kids in Bethlehem was a good idea.
Evil is always present and takes many forms. There are parents who kill, not the body, but the spirit of their children. Mostly this is hidden. But today is a day of public evil. I know of no mechanism available to humanity to deal with the evil residing in our world except one. That is prayer. "...and deliver us from evil."
Prayer is our defense, our weapon against evil. It is the tool given to us by the one whose birthday we soon celebrate.

I definitely agree with you.

Quick Steel, kudos on an excellent post. I think you summed up the situation quite well. I was somewhat surprised to hear the governor of Conn. make the statement "Evil visited us today". He was exactly right in saying that, but you can rest assured that the talking heads in the media will blame this on everything else imaginable before they'll acknowledge it for what it truely is.
Those of us who are sane and rational can't grasp the why of something like this, and more often than not, we tend to come up with no answers as to how something like this can happen. I think QS is exactly right in saying this is a manisfestation of evil.

Quick Steel, That is a very good editorial and correct. Most of the world does not know the power
of Prayer. I'am thankful for Prayer, the Bible, The simple plan of Salvation. The only thing that can
change our nation is Prayer.

Re: please,,not the kids
Excellent post Quick Steel!
Unfortunately we live in a society that wants to believe man is basically good and man himself can solve all our problems by the application of Science and Philosophy. But Science has only given us more efficient ways to kill; atomic, chemical and biological weapons. Philosophy has given is Marxism, Socialism and Nihilism (the philosophy of the Third Reich). None of these things have brought us peace, as they do not deal with the root problem of evil in the human heart.
God did not create man to be evil that was the result of man’s choice to sin. Sin was the Pandora’s Box that opened man’s heart to all the terrible manifestations of evil we see in our world today. Man alone is unable to close his heart to that evil. It is only when we as individuals ask the Creator into our heart and our heart is filled with His Holy Spirit that we as individuals are free from evil, because evil and Good cannot occupy the same place anymore than light and dark can exist in the same place.
God who created man has the only plan (the simple plan of Salvation) that removes the evil from the heart of man and restores the creature (man) to his creator (God). Gods plan of Salvation is so simple the simplest of people can understand it, yet it confounds the most brilliant scholars.

Re: please,,not the kids
Well said everyone,
God has been taken out of just about everything our country stands for, we need to stay strong in our beliefs and educate our children what right and wrong is and that there are penalties for wrongful acts.
We can't stop all crazy people from doing bad things but learning from them to help prevent more is a good start.
