Rare Old Case

Post by Blade Runner »

Here's an interesting, rare an old piece I recently acquired. The handle material is Opal/Pearl which is cut from the outer portion of the abalone shell. These handles are original but rare. As you can see below this knife is marked with pattern # AB102, AB= Abalone. I have also seen knives with this handle material marked OP instead of AB. OP=Opal/Pearl. The main blade is marked WR Case & Sons.

She's a beauty, that's for sure. Some species of abalone in California look opalescent over the entire shell. The black abalone is one that shows iridescense like this. The black color is merely "skin thick" and the rest is MOP and has a lot of color such as this. Thanks for showing this knife, she's a knockout. ::tu:: ::tu::

Wow, those handles are really nice. I don't think I have ever even seen a picture of one like that. You must be a very proud owner.
