Imperial easy open jack
Hey guys, I just came across this EO jack and I always wanted one so I had to get it, The main blade is a little short though and leaves a small part of the blade sticking up. I was wondering if any of you would have a main spear blade they would sell me so I can get this knife looking great again.

Re: Imperial easy open jack
you need to find out why it is sticking up.
is there something in the frame preventing it from closing? dust, an extruded handle pin that is interfering with the proper pivoting of the blade, etc.
if the channel is clear, then perhaps the blade has been tipped at some time in the past, and now the point is higher than the frame.
if this is the case, then you have a couple of options:
1. re-profile the blade tip so that the point is below the frame again. yes, the blade will still be a little short, but at least it will be all original.
2. remove a little bit of the tang kick so that the point sits lower than the end of the frame. be careful with this, as by lowering the kick you run the risk of having the edge of the blade hit on the spring itself, thus dulling the cutting edge. however, on a jack of this pattern I would suppose that you have a little "wiggle room" on this, and it might work OK. Again, you will compromise some of the originality, but you will be keeping the original blade in the knife.
3. you could find an original blade, or a suitable replacement blade, but the task of replacing it might damage other aspects of the knife or it's integrity...even if done properly. the upside would be that you would have a knife with a full blade length, but you have to ask yourself this: a) are you planning to just use this knife? if so, then perhaps a reshaping would do - you are just using it as a tool after-all. or b) planning to collect it? then removing the blade hurts future collectibility.
use practical discernment and you will come out on top.

Re: Imperial easy open jack
bworldwidedotcom, thanks for the tips, I checked it over good and it looks like the blade was tipped in the past, I have just recently gotten into repairing and modding knives and plan on keeping this one as an edc or just one for the collection but I would love to be able to find a full blade to put in, I just want to try and get this one looking as good as possible.

If you are thinking of replacing the blade anyway, why not try to file down the kick on the blade so that it closes more ?
Since it's an easy opener, you'll still be able to open it even if the blade is seated deeper in the bladewell. If it were mine, I'd try that before performing blade replacement surgery.

The blade is worn by use and sharpening. The main blade used to be much wider.
Filing the kick will lower the blade so it doesn't cut you while in your pocket.
But you will lose the nail nick behind the secondary blade.
