That knife was embellished, and so marked, by Herman Williams. His recent work of just adding stag handles, is bringing $100 and up for otherwise normal Schrades. He does nice work for sure, but anything he does is selling for a very large premium, IMO.

I have never seen this done to a blade before!!!.........I don't know if I like this or not..I am talking about this side of the blade(in pic) ..I'm sure it looks better in person,at least I hope ..But the rest of the knife is PRIMO!!

It is called Engine Turning, Machining, Jeweling, or most properly, Guilloche. It is done on custom jewelry, like watches, bracelets, and such. Also popular on knives. Here is a 1981 Ken Richardson, with the engine turned blade work.....

Another fellow here in AZ who does it, is the reclusive, but quite talanted Ghostown (hard to see on this picture).

i still have all the ss brushes i used turning rifle bolts and parts from my gs days. thought about trying it out on a knife. hmm... i don't know.

I have seen custom knives with the engine turning on them. It looks nice, though if it is a large blade, it can be a bit much, IMO.

I have yet to see a Herman Williams knife that I did not like. He really has a was of making a knife come to life!

BTW Bill, That is a nice Richardson. Is he from Alaska? I recall a number of custom knives out of Alaska in the 1980s that used the engine turning on the blades and antler handles. They were nice looking knives, but I don't recall the maker's name.

I'm not sure about an Alaska connection, but this Ken Richardson is from the Ozarks area. His knives are quite reasonable...most under $100.

I've sat on (on eBay) more than several of Herman Williams' works, and to date I am 0-for...

...now they are going for a ton, without filework or anything other than nice handle work.

This seller seems to have a lot of his hafting work...

Maybe I'll never get one without giving up a leg (bad deal for the seller, as they don't work all that great anymore...

).

I added another picture above of another fellow I'll be chasing for the next 100 years or so...Ghostown.

I don't always care for Jeweling, but sometimes it is quite striking, or just interesting to have a piece or two in my collection/accumulation.

I have to agree with Dale, I like the jeweling on smaller knives, like a bird and trout knife, at most, or some of his minitures. A bowie just seems out of place, to busy for my taste and could hide a lot of mistakes, though all of his knives seem to be quality made. I have a couple minitures, no pictures though and his prices are good.

I haven't had the pleasure of handling a williams embellished knife, but from what I've heard and seen he does/did excellent work
