that-which-is-not-talked-about - Extreme Utility....
This is my adaptation of a design by another friend, and fellow knife maker. It is currently being used in a "charity" type build off we are busy with, and these are proto-types.
It is intended to be a utility knife, suitable for day to day EDC use, with a strong leaning towards tactical/self defense (SD) applications - there are several design aspects that enhances the SD aspect - specifically the angled blade and re-enforced pommel - perhaps I will post up a few pics on this later.
This was the first one - brass pommel, Paduak handle and high carbon steel from a circular saw blade. I am about 99% sure the steel is W2, based on the way it HT's and performs - what ever it is, it takes a wicked, wicked edge and holds it well.
As you can see I ground the blade right down, removing all the pitting and markings from the old blade:
Due to the "angled" design, and perhaps the size of my hands, it looks relatively small in hand but it has a 90mm (about 3 and 3/4") blade:
And it carries well, also concealed:
On the second one I went for a "retro" kind of look - a mix of modern and old - the blade is again from an old circular saw, but this time I left some of the pitting in place, combined with a black micarta handle and stainless steel pommel - in these pics the knife is not quite finished yet - I'll post up some others a little later:
On this last one I also added a little jimping to the spine, as can be seen in the last pic. You will also notice how the swedge/false edge tapers the tip down, while retaining some thickness to the blade tip - I don't think I need to go into the gory details....
Below is the next proto. This is more my own design, although the heritage can be seen, especially as far as the handle profile goes. Blue Micarta, stainless pommel, circular saw blade steel. 4" blade in my take on the wharncliffe profile with a full height flat grind = SLICER. Not quite finished, that has to happen today, but you get the idea...
And the blue is a lot deeper than it looks in the pics - these were taken just after the knife had been sanded roughly.
