I found this old knife in a box of junk I got. Broken tip, rotten leather handle with gobs of epoxy filling in for missing rings.

So I decided to give it a new look. I replaced the steel guard with a hand made brass one. I also left off the skull crusher and capped the stag with brass.

I guess this would be a demilitarized Camillus now.

I have big hands so I left the handle long.

Next time please make a before photo.

I do under stand the big hand thingy too. In High school I could hold a basket ball up side down with out dropping it. A nickel fit in my class ring.
I think it was a size 12 or 13 ? To far back for an old man to remember.

Nice looking Stag man and thanks for bring her back to life again.
She came from a good maker and now can run more miles.

Just beautiful work on one of my favorite knives! I mean that, agteacher, that is pure class.

Here is what one looks like barenaked. I have been hoping that someday I will wake up and suddenly have knife handle replacement skills. Also a standard Jet Pilot with the handles, offered as trade bait for anyone willing to rehandle my bare blank for me.

I don't post in this forum often, as I can't really contribute. But I am a frequent visiter/admirer of the work shown off here. Keep it up guys...

As you guys can probably tell, Jeff and I had a little transaction as the result of this thread. Jeff treated me excellently, just like a 'real' customer he was doing a very expensive job for. He asked what I wanted, I drew a pic (I always like coffin handles.. feel good in my hand) and after a question or two and a suggestion, he went to work.

Excellent! I'll have a nice custom sheath made for this. This model knife has some sentimental value to me and it will be a nice companion afield. I don't cut my way out of crashed jets very often, so I very carefully ground down the sawbck and blued it. Makes a nife thumb rest. I didn't want to totally remove it and do away with the old familiar look of this knife.
