Can someone put a new/different main blade in my Camillus 72

Post by Just Plain Dave »

I have a Delrin scaled 72 that was my Grandfathers. Had he not attacked the blade with a grinder it still wouldn't be my Favorite because of the chisel grind.

The knife snaps like a Gator. And has no blade wobble.

And I would love it to death with a flat ground main blade!

I won't be able to afford much....

But I'd LOVE to carry this knife!

I don't know...it looks pretty awesome to me just the way it is. ::tu::

You could smooth out the blade with some sandpaper.

Dave -- To each his own but (isn't there always one in there someplace) if it were mine and it were my grandfathers knife, I'd leave it alone. (another but) But I'm just a sentimental old fool so what do I know.

The back side of the blade is flat ground. Look just at that side. Seriously though, there is someone on the forum who may soon be the proud new owner of a half-dozen or more brand new post 1989, flat ground on both sides, Camillus 72 blades. If he gets them, I'm sure a deal could be struck.

Like Jerry I too am a sentimental (not so) old fool and would leave it as is, but I could regrind the blade to a flat grind. I've done it before.

I've knocked the sharp crease off the chisel side. Perhaps I'll just leave it alone....

But the one in the other thread has such a FINE blade in it!

Doggone it! I can't get a single blade on the 72 to slice paper like ALL the blades on my Grandpaws two Schrades or the Kutmaster.

The little clip comes closest.

I can leave it looking pretty much as is, but it's GOT to be scary sharp!

Pretty well have the blades going through flimsy Airbill paper now....

Still, the 80T does it better.

Dave, the sabre grind or half sabre grind of the clip blade in the 72 (depending on which you have) has different blade dynamics than the flat ground blade of the 8OT.
I would expect an 8OT blade to cut paper better due to the design of the blade.

There ya go. Kind of why I asked the question in the first place!

It hasn't bumped the 80T yet.... but it might get some carry.

I have some blades that will absolutely WHISPER through paper.
I never got this one THAT good, but not TOO shabby...

I just know in the grand scheme of things I would never purposely buy anything but flat grind.
