First Part Replacement

Post by Bert »

I want to show my first attempt at replacing a part in a vintage knife. I found an old Camillus WWII Engineer's knife in a junk store with a broken back spring. The handles were in good shape as well as all the blades, the master has been sharpened down quite a bit, but it's still usable. I won a similar junker on eBay. I took it apart by following some of the posts of Dales I found here. (thanks Dale, you the Man!) I bought some pin stock and again with advice from Dale, I made a new rocker pin, spun a bead on it with a nail set I chucked up in the drill press. While not a master piece of craftsmanship, it was satisfying to repair to a usable state this great old utility knife. The eBay knife had a bad blade, now of course I only have one good spring as I robbed one from it. I will find a blade for it, and put it back together with just a blade and the screwdriver, should make a nice slim carry knife. I can tell you, this is going to be addictive.

I warn everyone, it is more addictive than collecting.
Soon you will be selling your collection to buy old beat up knives to repair!
